Lockscreen Observer does not take any picture

Activate Lockscreen Observer

First of all, be sure that ‘Lockscreen monitoring’ is enabled. Start Lockscreen Observer, go to Settings, and verify that the checkbox ‘Lockscreen monitoring’ is checked. If not, click on the checkbox. This will open a new screen ‘Device Admin’, where you have to click ‘Activate’. Thats it.

Taking pictures using a false pin/password

Android requires a minimal password length of 4 characters. Therefore, a picture is only being taken when a minimum of 4 characters have been entered.

Taking pictures using a false pattern

Android requires a minimal pattern length of 4 dots. Therefore, a picture is only being taken when a minimum of 4 dots/pads have been connected.

Taking pictures using a false fingerprint

It’s not that easy to let Android register a false fingerprint. If it says ‘Swipe over the center’, ‘Swipe slower’ or ‘Swipe the entire pad’, no photo will be taken because Android does not recognize it as a false fingerprint. A false fingerprint is successfuly identified when it says ‘no match‘.

How to take a picture when the correct PIN code is entered

If you guess, someone knows the correct pin, you can also try to take a picture of him. This is only possible though, when a wrong PIN code has been entered at least once before the correct PIN code is being entered. Therefore you need to enter the false PIN right after locking your phone, to prepare the trap. Because you don’t want a picture of yourself, do the following:

  • open the App Settings => Lockscreen (Configure triggering events)
  • Photo after entry of false PIN: after 2 failed attempts
  • Photo after entry of correct PIN: must be checked

Then lock your phone, and enter an invalid pin. Because you configured to take a photo after the 2nd failed entrys, nothing happens for now. But the next false or correct lock screen event will trigger a photo.

Tip: Disable the notification. If somebody really knows your pin, and unlocks your phone, you don’t want him to see his photo in the notification bar. Disable the notification in the status bar. Thus don’t forget to check for new photos regularly.

How to synchronize with the cloud/upload to dropbox et cetera

If you like to upload the taken pictures to a cloud, configure Lockscreen Observer to save them in the public folder/storage directory. So every app (e.g. standard gallery) can access the pictures.

  • open the App Settings => Camera
  • Save in public folder: Must be checked

New pictures will now be stored in public folder. Configure your preferred app to synchronize them

How to stop taking too many selfies

Maybe the most pictures are from youself, because you enter the wrong pin to often? You may improve the situation, when you take the first picture not before the second failed login attempt happens.

  • open the App Settings => Lockscreen
  • Photo after entry of false PIN: after 2 failed attempts (or even more)

The next first false pin entries will not result in a picture.
